BACON FAT WASHED OLD FASHIONED
Ingredients and Steps
INGREDIENTS NEEDED FOR BACON FAT WASH:
- 1- 1.5 oz bacon fat (need about 4-5 pieces thick cut bacon)
- 1 fifth of your favorite bourbon or rye
- 1 square of cheesecloth, coffee filter or wet paper towels
- 1 large mason jar, food storage container, or empty fifth bottle
- A fine mesh strainer
DIRECTIONS
1. Prep the bacon fat washed bourbon 24 hours in advance of enjoying your cocktail
Cook 4-5 pieces of bacon on medium low heat.
2. Set bacon aside and strain bacon fat into a measuring cup (wait until it has slightly cooled – enough to not be splattering, but still liquid consistency)
3. Combine 1 fifth of bourbon and 1 – 1.5 oz bacon fat in a jar. Add lid, shake, and set aside at room temp for 24 hrs
4. After 24 hrs, place jar in freezer for 30 mins
5. Remove jar from freezer, remove top layer of bacon fat, and strain bourbon using a strainer and cheesecloth. The bacon fat washed bourbon is now ready to use to make your cocktail.
INGREDIENTS NEEDED FOR PIG & NUT BACON FAT WASHED OLD FASHIONED:
- 2 oz bacon washed Bourbon (ingredients above)
- 3 dashes aromatic bitters
- 3 dashes Orange Bitters
Maple or Brown sugar simple syrup 1/2 oz
DIRECTIONS
Add all ingredients to a mixing glass with ice and stir for 20-30 seconds to infuse the flavors
Strain into a cocktail glass over a large ice-cube or sphere
Garnish with an expressed Orange Peel
After your cocktail is made, add to a smoke chamber/ box and smoke with a pinch of Pig & Nut Hickory premium smoke chips for 30 seconds and enjoy!
